Occupational Therapy: O.T.’S evaluate someone’s ability to do the things necessary for day-to-day living and help them achieve these skills.      Physical Therapy:  P.T.’s evaluate someone’s ability to move, walk, transfer, etc and identify treatments to help improve physical abilities.      Speech Therapy: Speech Therapist’s evaluate someone’s ability to communicate whether verbally, through sign language or the use of technology. Information Systems fills the technological needs of the agency providing network, hardware, and software support for all users in all locations and  allowing 24/7 access to information to aid in the care of our consumers. Customer Services provides information and outreach to consumers and the general community; initiates grants; handles consumer concerns and assists them with system issues.  Quality Improvement interprets data, strives to improve the system and process; monitors performance indicators; conducts clinical chart reviews and coordinates compliance with regulatory bodies.       The Training Unit assures competent performance, professional conduct, and the continuous pursuit of excellence by agency and provider staff who provide service to individuals with behavioral health needs The Finance Department monitors the agency budget to assure that funding is spent as appropriated. This department also provides fiscal intermediary services to assist individuals who are using ‘self-determination’ to pay for their supports providers.  
Assertive Community Treatment provides basic services and supports essential for people with serious mental illness to maintain independence in the community. An ACT team provides therapy and medication assistance as well as help finding community resources. Mental health therapy and counseling for adults, children and families includes therapy or counseling designed to help improve functioning and relationships with other people. This may be provided on an individual basis, to families, or in a group therapy type of service. Nursing staff include registered nurses and nurse practitioners. They work closely with physician assistants, physicians and psychiatrist’s to provide evaluations, treatment, and to distribute and monitor medications. Nurses also work directly with an individual’s person-centered-planning team. The ACCESS Center is the ‘Front Door’ of Community Mental Health. All requests for services are handled by qualified staff who will determine needs and eligibility. If the caller meets eligibility criteria, they will be given an appointment. If not, ACCESS staff will assist in locating other agencies in the community that can meet your needs.

A person’s primary care physician will treat any other health conditions. Physician assistants and psychiatrist’s provide emergency care as needed. Provides 24 hour emergency intervention/triage for residents of Muskegon county. Crisis walk in clinic runs 8-5 M-F in which individuals may request service, or receive crisis services. Initial after hours emergency calls are answered by our contract provider, who provides crisis intervention and empathic listening and support. Depending on what the individual situation is, callers may be directed to the local emergency room, or professional staff may be paged to respond to the caller.. SC’s are professionals who help individuals obtain/maintain health, wellness, and recovery.  SC’s partner with individuals using person-centered-planning to create comprehensive plans of service based on their unique strengths and abilities. There are typically a range of needs involving interaction with schools, the SSA, therapists and medical professionals.

The NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Resource Center offers an extensive inventory of books, videos, journals and information about mental health issues. Topics include mental illness, developmental disability, aging, and substance use disorders. This library is open to the public. Our receptionists strive to promote a welcoming and courteous environment to consumers and visitors alike.
CMH operates two licensed residential facilities: Brinks, located on the South Campus offers a short-term, therapeutic alternative to inpatient hospitalization. Indian Bay in located in Montague and offers specialized services to adults with mental illness in the community.
Skill Building services for adults with a developmental disability are offered at three sites located in Muskegon County.  Services are provided such that individuals attending can learn, enhance and/or maintain skills related to independence, productivity and community integration. There are 133 individuals receiving services at 2 sites in Muskegon and 1 in Whitehall. Emphasis is on including participants in the community at large through a variety of activities.
Celebrating its Tenth Anniversary, Clubhouse is available to all individuals receiving services of CMH, age 18 and older, who have a primary diagnosis of mental illness.  Members and staff work together to complete the activities necessary to keep the clubhouse operational. Organized into structured work units that provide a variety of specific activities, members are involved in all aspects of the program, from development/planning, decision/policy making, to scheduling of events and staff selection.
