Public Defender
The Muskegon County Public Defenders was created in 2013 by the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners. Our mission is to defend the rights of those persons against whom the government threatens a liberty interest. What that means is, if a person cannot afford a lawyer and he or she faces being put in jail or prison or the government is threatening to take his or her children, we are appointed to defend him or her. No one in Muskegon County will be deprived of life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness simply because he or she cannot afford to pay a lawyer.
