The training provides a basic understanding of blood-borne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of preventing exposure and other relevant information.
The Communicable Disease Management program monitors communicable disease activity within the community; receives reports of all reportable diseases as required by Michigan law; investigates and implements measures to control communicable diseases and infections; and provides information as related to disease transmission.
The Public Health Nursing program conducts health education and promotion activities, makes referrals to other service agencies in the community, and provides consultative services to Muskegon area schools.
Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is the treatment given to people exposed to a potential, or known, rabid animal. PEP includes one dose of rabies immune globulin, and a series of 4 doses of rabies vaccine given over a 14-day period.
