June 25, 2024, 5:19 AM & 5:55 AM: Two severe storm systems swept across Muskegon County at approximately 5:19 AM and 5:55 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
June 25, 2024: Muskegon County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated.
June 25, 2024: Press Release—Two Storm Systems Hit Muskegon County Within One Hour Early Morning Tuesday, Restoration Continues
June 26, 2024: Self-Reporting Survey Activated
June 27, 2024: Pursuant to Section 10 of 1976 PA 390, Charles Nash, as Board Chairperson of the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners District 5, Declares a Local State of Emergency. Following Section 12 of 1976 PA 390, as amended, Charles Nash, as Board Chairperson of the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners District 5, deems this incident to be beyond the control of this political subdivision and respectfully requests Governor Whitmer declare that a State of Disaster or State of Emergency exists therein.

July 5, 2024: Press Release—Response and Recovery Efforts Continue After Muskegon County Declares State of Emergency
July 9, 2024: Small Business Administration (SBA) Damage Assessment conducted for individuals and businesses.
July 10, 2024: The Governor's Office denied the request for a State of Disaster or Emergency. Although this incident caused damage, the impacts on the jurisdiction were not severe enough to warrant a disaster or emergency declaration under the Michigan Emergency Management Act (1976 PA 390, as amended).
July 10, 2024: The Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division notified Muskegon County Emergency Management that Muskegon County did not meet the required threshold. Therefore, federal funding through the SBA was denied. Most properties assessed were insured, which is reassuring for the recovery efforts of impacted households. However, insured properties are not eligible to meet the SBA threshold.
July 15, 2024: Muskegon County Multi-Agency Resource Coordination Event
July 16, 2024: A Nonpartisan Letter was Submitted to Governor Whitmer Requesting the Reconsideration of the Muskegon County State of Emergency Declaration.
