Project Description

Heritage Landing Phase VIII includes the installation and repair of the seawalls, dredging on the East and North ends of the peninsula, relocation of rip rap and piling placement. Also included in the project will be the balancing of the landscaping in the music venue area using material brought in from off site, installation of retaining walls, the addition of a paved access way and paved parking area, as well as lighting and utilities. The site will also be equipped with a new lavatory facility and picnic areas.

Funding Source

State / Local - base bid from contractors of $1,723,300.00. Approximately 42 percent of the project is to be paid for through a grant with 58 percent paid for with local monies.

Project Features

Upon project completion, the renovated area will be able to provide a docking area for future ships, music venue improvements, and additional parking and lavatory facilities. The promenade covers an area of approximately 1,800 feet in length to 180 feet at its largest width and 120 feet at the smallest width.

June 17, 2002
The construction to the Heritage Landing promenade is approximately 95 percent complete. The picnic pavilions have been painted and are ready for the canopy tops. One of the four canopy tops has been installed. Trees have also been planted.  The bathroom fixtures have been put in place but there is still some finishing mechanical and plumbing.  The asphalt has been poured but parking area striping has not been painted.

February 14, 2002
The public restroom facility at the Heritage Landing promenade is currently 95 percent complete. The outside tile on the building has been installed and completed. The roof has been put on the building.

January 14, 2002
With the holiday season and the onset of winter there has not been any significant progress on the Heritage Landing project.

November 27, 2001
Since the last status update the restroom has been built with the roof being installed during the week of November 19, 2001. The interior of the restroom has rough plumbing installed but has not been finished with fixtures. The road leading out to the promenade and the parking area has been graded and ready for the first coat of asphalt. The first coat of asphalt should be installed this year weather permitting. The frames for the picnic pavilions have been installed and are waiting for the fabric roofing material. The two upper and lower side walks on the West side of the promenade have also been completed. All underground utilities have been installed.

September 25, 2001
The seawall, pilings, bollards and relocation of the rip rap is 100 percent complete. Ninety-five percent of the dredging, filling and grading of the site has been completed. The foundation flooring including the rough plumbing for the restroom facilities has been finished. Fifty percent of the utilities have been installed to be used at various locations on the site and bases for the lamp posts around the peninsula have been set in place with rough electrical work. The boardwalk is now half way finished.

The seawall is 80 percent complete, but work has not yet started on the pilings, bollards or rip rap relocation. 90 percent of the dredging, filling and grading of the site have been complete. 20 percent of the utilities for the peninsula have been installed. Work on the road and parking lot has just been started and approximately 15 percent of the work to the boardwalk is complete.

Some of the dredging work has been completed.  Approximately 100 feet of seawall has been repaired or installed.  Most of the dredged material has been moved from its drying location to the music venue area to be spread in place.  Digging for water and sewer lines has also started.
