At the Muskegon County Public Defender’s Office, our mission is to protect the rights, liberty, and dignity of every person we serve by providing exceptional, client-centered holistic representation.
Every member of our team—attorneys, investigators, social workers, mitigation specialists, administrative staff, and legal interns—is united in a shared belief: Our Clients Come First. We work collaboratively to secure the best possible outcomes in court, while also helping our clients build a better future beyond it.
When we accomplish our mission, lives change—and so do communities.
As public defenders, we are a critical check on a legal system that has a long history of being unequal and unjust. We strive every day to transform that system by recognizing the humanity of every client and standing with those society too often ignores—the poor, the incarcerated, those struggling with addiction and mental illness, and all who need our help.
We fight for justice. We stand in our clients’ shoes. And we carry out our sworn duty with humility and resolve.
We protect the interests and liberty of those we serve. When they come for our clients, they have to come through us.
