History

Origins

The County of Muskegon was incorporated July 18, 1859. It comprises 527.34 square miles with 30 miles of Michigan shoreline, seven county parks, two state parks and 12,500 acres of national forest reserve. The current county building was constructed in 1959 for a total cost of approximately $3,000,000.
