Michigan ranks 13th among the fifty states in terms of the number of local governmental entities. These entities are divided into 83 counties, 1,240 townships, 280 Cities and 253 Villages. Within Muskegon County alone, we occupy 7 of those Cities , 15 Townships, and 2 Villages.
Election inspectors are individuals who are paid (Covered by the Federal Minimum Wage Act) to assist voters at the polls on Election Day.
Base Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must be a registered voter in the state of Michigan if the individual is 18 or older or for individuals under the age of 18, must be a Michigan resident.
- You cannot be a election challenger, a candidate, a member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local board of canvassers.
- You must affiliate with a political party, though party registration isn't necessarily a requirement, Michigan law requires that election inspectors disclose political affiliation to ensure balanced staffing. Affiliating as either "independent" or "unaffiliated" is not a legal option for election inspectors.
